PwLE: Port(wine) Learning Environment
Santos, Carlos and Pedro, Luís and Aresta, Mónica (2011) PwLE: Port(wine) Learning Environment. pp. 1-2. In: Proceedings of the The PLE Conference 2011, 10th - 12th July 2011, Southampton, UK.
Most of us have been participating in conferences for years. And, very often, we have the feeling that the best and more useful parts of these venues are the ones that occur outside the official program. The bounded format of conferences leaves little/no room to a more deep and free discussion of the ideas presented during thematic sessions and, frequently, the physical environment is not suitable for a more intimate kind of interaction. The end result of this is that open and informal discussions are taking place somewhere away from the conference venue. Some of them occur late night at the pub and sometimes are restricted to small groups of people that already know each other from previous events. The basic idea behind this proposal is to bring this type of valuable social interaction to the official conference program. We recognize that last year’s PLE Conference in Barcelona was a great experience because the organization was indeed concerned with this issue and promoted some activities to enhance social interaction within the official program. Following that line of thought, we are now proposing a new discussion/knowledge-sharing format for the PLE Conference.
